American tenor Michael Porter left the  Frankfurt Opera Studio to join Oper Frankfurt's Ensemble in the autumn of 2015.

During the 2015/16 season he sang Victorin and Gaston in Korngold's Die tote Stadt/The Dead City, Graf von Lerma in Don Carlo - both revivals, and the Steuermann in Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman, Carlino in Fioravanti's Le cantatrici villane and Le Remendado in Carmen - all new productions.

In 2016/17 Michael Porter can be heard as Hot Biscuit Slim in Britten's Paul Bunyan, Hylas and Helenus in Les Troyens (both new productions), Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Varo in Gluck's Ezio, Gaston in Křenek's Schwergewicht oder Die Ehre der Nation/Heavyweight, or the Honour of the Nation and the tenor role in Mozart's  Betulia liberata - both new productions.

Recent guest engagements have included a Squire in Parsifal at the Staatsoper Berlin and the Young King in the world premiere of Tonguecat at the Munich Opera Festival. Roles for Oper Frankfurt in recent seasons have included Sipho in the world premiere of Lior Navok's An unserem Fluss/By Our River, the Spirit/Sailor (Dido and Aeneas), Schmidt (Werther), Thibault (Die Sizilianische Vesper/The Sicilian Vespers), Rodrigo (Otello) and Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos), a role he debuted with Fort Worth Opera.

Michael took part in the Opera Theatre St. Louis' Young Artist Program singing Mole / Juror (Alice in Wonderland) and covering the role of Ferrando in Così fan tutte. During his time as a young artist with Opera Theatre St. Louis, Michael was awarded the Barbara and Stanley Richman Award for career development. Michael then returned to Opera Theatre St. Louis to sing the role of Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites). Porter also took part in the Seagle Music Colony's Young Artist Program, where roles included Benvolio (Roméo et Juliette) and Ferrando (Così fan tutte).

He studied at Indiana University.

'Michael Porter excites with radiant tenor in the aria from Steuermann and illuminates the gloomy scenery with balladic heroism.'
