ABOUT MICHAEL PORTER

American tenor Michael Porter left the  Frankfurt Opera Studio to join Oper Frankfurt's Ensemble in the autumn of 2015. 

Since joining the Ensemble, Michael has excited the audiences with his Mozart debuts as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Ferrando (Cosí fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Pedrillo (Entführung aus dem Serail), and Arbace (Idomeneo). Other notable performances include Steuermann (Der fliegende Holländer), Andres (Wozzeck), The Novice (Billy Budd), Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), and Helenus/Hylas (Les Troyens). Michael gave a song recital alongside Axel Bauni on the stage of Oper Frankfurt in 2019. 


This coming season in Oper Frankfurt will see Michael in the roles of Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Chevalier de la Force (
Dialogues des Carmélites), and 2nd Jew (Salome) as well as returning to the role of Pedrillo in the revival of Entführung aus dem Serail.

 

Recent guest engagements have seen Michael performing the role of Ernesto (Don Pasquale) with the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater. Michael could also be seen as Monostatos in the Salzburger Festspiele's newest production of Die Zauberflöte, a Squire (Parsifal) at the Staatsoper BerlinVictorin/Gaston (Die tote Stadt) at the Semperoper Dresden and the Young King in the world premiere of Tonguecat at the Munich Opera Festival. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the production of Salome in which Michael was making his debut as the second Jew with Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy was cancelled.  

 

Michael took part in the Opera Theatre St. Louis' Young Artist Program singing Mole / Juror (Alice in Wonderland) and covering the role of Ferrando in Così fan tutte. Michael returned to the company to sing he role of Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites). During his time as a young artist with Opera Theatre St. Louis, Michael was awarded the Barbara and Stanley Richman Award for career development. Porter also took part in the Seagle Music Colony's Young Artist Program, where roles included Benvolio (Roméo et Juliette) and Ferrando (Così fan tutte).

He studied at Indiana University.
